National Australia Bank has announced the departure of chief people officer Lorraine Murphy.

Murphy joined the bank in March 2016 from her previous role as chief people officer of Air New Zealand.

Commenting on her service, NAB's acting group chief executive officer and incoming chair Philip Chronican said: "Lorraine has brought a significant and diverse history to NAB and we are grateful for her time here. Building a truly customer-centric culture is more important than ever and Lorraine and her team have laid the foundations for us."

Murphy added: "I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at NAB and have reached a useful point of reflection to consider other roles. It is important for the incoming CEO to have members of their leadership team who are fully committed to the coming years."

Julie Rynski, currently customer executive regional and agribusiness, will act in the role while the "global search" for a permanent successor is underway, the bank said.
