Morningstar names new Asia-Pacific Chief Investment Officer

Morningstar Investment Management Australia has announced that Matt Wacher has been appointed chief investment officer (CIO) for Morningstar Investment Management, Asia-Pacific, effective late January 2019.

In this Sydney-based role, Wacher will be responsible for leading the firm's investment management teams in Australia and overseeing the multi-asset and equity-managed funds and managed accounts capabilities. He will report to Daniel Needham, Morningstar Investment Management group's president and global CIO.

From 2015, Wacher served as CIO for Australian family office, Cambooya Pty Ltd and, before this, as portfolio manager for Qantas Super.

Commenting on his appointment at Morningstar, Needham said: "We believe that Matt will be an invaluable addition to the Asia-Pacific team as we build a global investment management business. He comes to us with a strong foundation of risk and principles of portfolio construction that aligns with our investment philosophy."

He added: "His leadership style is essential Morningstar: inclusive, collaborative, and a focus on integrity,"

Wacher will succeed current Asia-Pacific CIO, Andrew Lill, who has been appointed as CIO of Morningstar Investment Management, Americas. Lill will be based out of Chicago and report to Needham.
