Local Government Super appoints CEO

Executive Move

Phil Stockwell will return to Australia after nearly 5 years in Singapore with Eastspring Investments to become the CEO of Local Government Super.

The former Pendal Group COO will begin on 26 November following an extensive executive search.

LGS board chair Kyle Loades said, "Phil's strategy, leadership and operational experience in financial services organisations in times of change is a good fit for LGS and our members."

Loades himself has only been in the chair position for a month after a shakeup at the $12 billion superannuation fund following a change in their constitution that was required to meet expectations set out by APRA.

Donna Heffernan had been the fund's interim CEO since January of this year following the departure of David Smith. Heffernan will revert to her previous role as deputy CEO and company secretary.

Commenting on his appointment, Stockwell said that he was delighted to join LGS. "The Fund has a strong platform for growth and evolution, a trusted brand, and history of providing members with strong, consistent and sustainable investment outcomes.

"In a time of great change for all superannuation funds there is increasing focus on improving member investment outcomes, value and service."
