Link Group CEO John McMurtrie has announced his intentions to retire in early 2021. He joined the organisation as managing director in 2002.

During McMurtrie's more than 40 years in business he's held many senior roles including executive general manager of the ASX's investors and companies division and CEO of UBS Australia.

Outside of the finance industry, McMurtrie has been the chair of the Sydney Water Corporation and was the inaugural chair of the National Electricty Code Administrator (NECA).

"John has made an outstanding contribution to the performance of Link Group during his almost two decades as Managing Director," said Link Group Chair Michael Carapiet.

"Ahead of our ASX listing in 2015, John made a personal commitment to guide the business through the first phase of its operation as a public company," said Carapiet. "Driven by his vision and dedication, Link Group has evolved from a small share registry business into a respected, market-leading global provider of technology-enabled administration solutions, with more than 6,500 employees and some of the world's largest corporations, pension funds and financial institutions among its clients."

Link Group has appointed current QBE Asia Pacific CEO Vivek Bhatia as its new MD and CEO.

"It has been a privilege to lead this business and I take great pride in the growth of the company during my tenure," said McMurtrie. "I am very comfortable handing the leadership of this great business to Vivek and remain very optimistic about the future for Link Group."
