GoldenTree Asset Management LP (GoldenTree), a global manager specialising in credit opportunities, has announced the opening of a Sydney office to be headed by newly-appointed managing director, Russell Taylor.

Taylor joins GoldenTree from J.P. Morgan, where he was most recently managing director, head of institutional sales for Australia and New Zealand, a role that he left in July 2017 after over 30 years with the firm. Prior to joining J.P. Morgan in 1985, he worked as a senior accountant with PricewaterhouseCoopers for three years.

GoldenTree's new Sydney office represents the firm's latest expansion in the Asia-Pacific region, and follows the opening of a Singapore office three years ago.

Commenting on the expansion and Taylor's appointment, partner and head of business development at GoldenTree, Kathy Sutherland, said: "Australia has long been an important market for GoldenTree and we are pleased to establish an on-the-ground presence in the region, which we believe will offer significant benefits to our investors. Russell has a long standing relationship with GoldenTree as well as terrific business development credentials in Australia and New Zealand and we welcome him to the firm."

Taylor added: "GoldenTree is a highly respected leader in the global credit markets, and I am excited about the opportunity to work with Kathy and the team to help further deepen and expand our presence in the Asia-Pacific region."
