ETF Securities has announced it has expanded its business development team with the appointment of former British Olympian, Larry Achike.

Achike, who commenced his career as an elite athlete in 1994, said of his sporting accomplishments: "I achieved the ultimate success in realising my goal and competing in two Olympic Games. But the pinnacle of my athletics career was being selected as the British Athletics team captain at the 2009 World Championships."

Since then, he has worked in the medical industry, advancing from medical sales representative to leading sales and marketing teams. He joins ETF Securities from the role of head of sales and business development at medical devices distributor, Surgicore Australia.

Commenting on his new role, he said: "I am looking forward to channelling my competitive instincts into a sector leader like ETF Securities."

ETF Securities has also announced three further appointments:

* Mathew Knapman, who has joined as an assistant portfolio manager after more than three years at Morningstar Australasia where he held various roles across data, operations and product;
* Nicola Culey, who joined earlier in the year and works across both the sales and research teams; and
* Amelia Serdoz, who joined in October in a marketing analyst role and was previously the office manager for ETFS's London office.

ETF Securities Australia chief executive, Kris Walesby, said that "developing [the firm's] talent pool is an important part of staying at the cutting edge of the industry."

He added: "The business has more than doubled its headcount since launching in 2015. I think that is testament to the fact that we are doing the right thing in the right part of the market."
