STATE SUPER (NSW)
Date: December 2018
Position: Chief Investment Officer

Richard Hedley has confirmed his departure from the role of chief investment officer at State Super, effective December 2018.

Hedley, who has more than 20 years' experience in investment management roles, joined the $42 billion fund as head of unlisted assets & alternatives in August 2015 and was appointed CIO in October 2016. Previously, he spent 13 years with Deutsche Asset Management, specialising in infrastructure and private equity investments.

His departure follows a restructure of the fund's investment team that saw the creation of four new investment roles, including: deputy CIO and general manager, defined contribution investments; general manager, defined benefits and liabilities; senior manager, responsible investing (which has been awarded to Alice Martin); and senior manager, investment risk.

Hedley's successor as CIO is former HESTA general manager, portfolio strategy and risk, Gary Gabriel.
