Challenger makes exec changes, searches for new Life chief

Challenger Limited has announced a new role for its Life chief executive and chief investment officer, Chris Plater. He will become the group's first chief executive for operations and technology. In his new role, he'll look after the operations and technology teams that previously reported to the CFO.

"Chris passion for technology and thorough understanding of the business' operational needs, positions him well to lead these team," said Challenger MD and CEO Richard Howes. "Christ takes on this role with a clear goal of building on our strong operations and technology foundations to drive an increased focus on deep and effective engagement with customers, advisers and our superannuation fund clients."

Plater first joined Challenger in 2003 and has held several senior roles during his tenure including chief investment officer. He was named chief executive in 2017. He's also held roles with Zurich Capital Markets and Bankers Trust.

Challenger's Anton Kapel has taken on the role of acting chief executive while the business searches for a permanent replacement. Plater will remain on the Challenger leadership team and continue as chair of the Life business.
