$40 billion industry super fund, Cbus, has announced the appointment of John Edwards to its board as an independent director, effective 1 January 2018.

Edwards will join the fund having most recently completed a five-year term as a member of the Board of the Reserve Bank of Australia. Currently, he is a non-resident fellow at the Lowy Institute, an adjunct professor with the John Curtin Institute of Public Policy at Curtin University, and an economic consultant. Previously, he was chief economist for Australia and New Zealand for HSBC and before that a principal economic adviser to Treasurer and then Prime Minister, Paul Keating.

He will be joined at Cbus by fellow new-appointee and employer director, Denita Wawn.

Commenting on both appointments, Cbus' chair, Steve Bracks said:"Cbus is delighted to welcome John and Denita to the Board and we look forward to working with them to continue our program of transformation which is driven by a total focus on getting the best possible retirement outcomes for members."

Edwards added: "With the Fund expected to grow to more than $60 billion within four to five years, I look forward to contributing to key innovations so we can continue to lead and deliver for our members."

Edwards replaces John Dawkins who finished his term in June this year following five years on the board.
