ASX appoints new chair

Damian Roche
DAMIAN ROCHE
ASX Limited - Chair
APPOINTMENT
ASX LIMITED
Date: April 2021
Position: Chair

Damian Roche will be the new chair of the ASX.

The news follows the announcement that Rick Holliday-Smith will leave the position after nearly 15 years on the board, the last nine as chair.

Roche first joined the ASX board in 2014 following 20 years in global investment banking including cross-asset class expertise. Roche had been the head of markets and investor services with J.P. Morgan in Hong Kong.

Holliday-Smith had high praise for his replacement. "Damian's deep knowledge of ASX, his background in global financial markets, his international regulatory experience, his knowledge of risk, and his experience managing large teams of people, make him an excellent choice as Chairman to lead ASX."

Roche said it's an honour to be elected chair but acknowledged the challenges facing the organisation. "[Challenges] and opportunities continue to present themselves. I am looking forward to engaging with ASX shareholders to understand their perspectives. I am also energised by what's ahead and by the prospect of working with the Board, management and staff to further strengthen ASX's foundations and build an exchange for the future."

Roche will take over as chair on April 21.
