The Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) has promoted its executive director for assessment and intelligence, Warren Day, to chief operating officer.

The move is part of the organisation's 2020-24 corporate plan, which outlines actions to address the impact of the COVID pandemic as well as longitudinal threats and harms in the regulatory environment.

"Our core purpose is to ensure confidence in a financial system that, even under stress, can remain fair, strong and efficient," said ASIC chair James Shipton.for the organisation. "Confidence is the bedrock of the economic recovery process."

Day has been with ASIC since 2003 when he joined as a senior lawyer in the enforcement division. He became a director for illegal schemes and super in 2007 and was named executive director in early 2019.

Before joining the regulatory, Day was a solicitor at Clayton Utz.
