ANZ has announced the appointment of Kevin Corbally as chief risk officer (CRO), effective 19 March 2018.

In this role, Corbally will be responsible for protecting ANZ's balance sheet as well as overseeing its risk strategies, policies and processes.

Corbally first joined ANZ in 2009 and is currently group general manager internal audit after having previously held senior institutional banking and credit management roles. Prior to joining ANZ, he was managing director and head of corporate & commercial banking at Citigroup in Australia & New Zealand.

Commenting on his most recent appointment, ANZ CEO, Shayne Elliott, said: "Managing risk appropriately is a critical function of all high-performing banks and I'm pleased to be able to appoint a strong leader with demonstrated values and diverse experience at a time the industry is facing increasing reputational and regulatory issues."

Corbally succeeds Nigel Williams, whose retirement was first announced in December 2017. Williams' intention is to now pursue a career as a non-executive director.
