Lauded diplomat steps down as AMP Limited director

Peter Varghese AO will step down from the AMP Limited board at the end of his term, 8 May 2020.

A former diplomat and current chancellor of the University of Queensland, Varghese joined the AMP Limited board in October of 2016. During his tenure, he held directorships for AMP Bank and AMP Capital Holdings, as well as being a member of the group Audit, Risk, Remuneration and Nomination committees.

Varghese has been the high commissioner to India and Malaysia, and secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

AMP chair David Murray said that Varghese is leaving the board to spend more time on his advisory work, including a follow-up to the India Economic Strategy report that he submitted to the Prime Minister in 2018. "The board thanks him for his contribution and wishes him well for the future."

AMP Limited has announced that Rahoul Chowdry will join the board effective 1 January 2020.
