A creative juggler and pillar of support - Meet Cbus' Unsung Hero

Preethi Parmar

It's her "exceptional creative abilities" paired with her reliable nature that prompted the team at Cbus to nominate Preethi Parmar as their Unsung Hero. Eager to challenge herself and learn something new every day, Preethi is a support pillar for her colleagues but also not afraid to challenge the way they think.

She tells Industry Moves what she enjoys about being an investment communications manager at Cbus, a little about her first "awesome" job and also names an eclectic mix of people she would invite to her dream dinner party.

"Challenge yourself. You can achieve anything if you set your mind to it." Preethi Parmar

What her colleagues have to say...

Quote Trish Donohue - Executive Manager, Investment Management
Preethi provides excellent input into the investment communications area of the fund. In particular, her creative abilities are exceptional and she is able to distil complex investment themes into easy to understand, written and visual communication. Preethi can always be relied upon to deliver high quality and thoughtful material and subsequently she is often sought out for her support across the fund. She is an extremely valued member of my investment team and the fund as a whole.

Quote Kerry Lindupp - General Manager Investment Communications
Preethi understands how to get to the essence of each project that she undertakes, across multiple levels of investment complexity and multiple stakeholders. She is held in high esteem by those she works with, and is unafraid to challenge how we think, while delivering an exceptional service.

Quote Mark Ward - General Manager Employer Marketing and Communications
Preethi provides outstanding support for the Employer Experience team. She is focused on the delivery of quality outcomes, using a professional and commercial approach. While juggling many competing priorities, Preethi manages stakeholder expectations and provides high quality, well-researched output in the timeframes required. I have absolute confidence in her approach to working in a team environment and we are fortunate to have her working with us at Cbus.

Q&A with Preethi Parmar

Unsung Hero

What do you enjoy most about your role?
I love that my role has exposure to different parts of Cbus. I get to work with a number of individuals across my organisation including some of the best minds in the business. Each day I am challenged and I have the opportunity to learn something new.

What drew you to the organisation/industry?
My introduction to superannuation came about while I was working at an investment research firm in Chicago. When I moved to Australia, I was intrigued by the concept of industry super funds. I interviewed for a position at Cbus and I knew immediately that this is where I wanted to work. What appealed to me most were the company values of teamwork and collectivism, and people who were passionate about making a difference.

What was your very first job?
My first job back in university was to deliver mail. I was stoked to be handed the keys to the university golf cart and I remember driving around campus thinking I had the most awesome job. And the best part - I didn't need a driver's license.

Who do you most admire and how have they influenced your life/work?
I've been fortunate to work with a number of inspiring mentors through my professional career. In my personal life, I was most influenced by my grandparents who played a major role in shaping me into the person that I am today.

Who would you invite to your dream dinner party?
My dream dinner party guest list would include Roger Federer, Jerry Seinfeld, Oprah Winfrey and Bill Gates.

What is the best advice you've been given?
Challenge yourself. You can achieve anything if you set your mind to it.

What possession do you most treasure?
Photographs. I've lived in three countries (India, the US and now Australia) and the photos I've collected over the years bring back many wonderful memories.

Do you have a secret skill/hidden talent?
Horse riding. Growing up, I trained to be a jockey. My dad was a jockey, so horses were a big part of my childhood.
