Spotlight: Australian Super Fund CEO Appointments

So far this year, Industry Moves has reported on five new super fund CEO appointments. With the increasing number of merger discussions underway in the sector, more appointments like the joint Equip/Catholic Super CEO role awarded to Scott Cameron are to be expected. For now, we shine a spotlight on this year's new appointees and take a look back at our historical data to bring you a list of those individuals, 27% of them women, who have secured CEO roles at 26 of Australia's super funds since 2015.

Super Fund CEO Appointments for 2019...

Sunsuper

Bernard Reilly Bernard Reilly
Appointed: October 2019
Sunsuper announced Bernard Reilly as the fourth CEO in the $69 billion fund's 32-year history, taking over from CEO Scott Hartley, who announced his intention to depart Sunsuper in May 2019 and will remain engaged with the fund to assist in the transition.

Equip/Catholic Super

Scott Cameron Scott Cameron
Appointed: September 2019
Equip Super and Catholic Super jointly announced the appointment of former Computershare CEO Scott Cameron as chief executive officer of both funds. The two organisations, when they begin operating in October 2019 under their joint venture agreement, will hold more than $26 billion in funds under management.

Commonwealth Bank Group Super

Scott Durbin Scott Durbin
Appointed: August 2019
Former CBA NewCo general manager, strategy, Scott Durbin, was appointed CEO of the $12 billion corporate super fund in August, taking over from Doug Carmichael who retired after nine years in the role.

Jarrod Coysh Jarrod Coysh
Appointed: July 2019
The super fund for people working in real estate announced the appointment of Jarrod Coysh as its new chief executive officer in July, taking over from long-serving CEO Mal Smith, who stepped down after 15 years at the helm.

Statewide Super

Tony D'Alessandro Tony D'Allessandro
Appointed: March 2019
Former Statewide Super general manager, member engagement, Tony D'Alessandro, was appointed as CEO of the $9 billion South Australian-based super fund, taking over from Richard Nunn who departed the fund in February 2019 to take up the top job at Metlife Australia.
